Turks and Caicos Islands Judiciary announced that the Christmas Recess shall commence on Thursday 23rd December, 2021 and end on Monday 3rd January, 2022. During the Christmas Recess the Chief Justice will be available to deal only with matters that are urgent or require prompt attention. The Domestic Violence Ordinance 2015, a landmark piece of legislation in the Turks and Caicos Islands, came into force on 3rd December 2021. This legislation will enhance the protection of persons who are survivors of domestic violence. The Domestic Violence Ordinance forms part of the Family Legislation that was passed by the House of Assembly in 2015. They consist of the Child (Care and Protection) Ordinance, the Adoption Ordinance, the Family Law (Guardianship, Custody, and Access to Children) Ordinance, and the Domestic Violence Ordinance. A Turks and Caicos Islands Government official announced that Salt Cay is the first island to be fully opened due to its outstanding uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine. Queen’s Counsel, Carlos Simons has once again been appointed a judge to the Supreme Court of the Turks and Caicos Islands. His appointment took effect from April 1, 2021. Same as his first appointment in February last year, this will be a temporary assignment and he will serve on the bench for one year. His appointment in 2020, made him the first indigenous Turks and Caicos Islander to become a judge in the Islands. Toronto-based explorer Mario Rigby spent two years crossing the African continent on foot. Last summer, he paddled the length of Lake Ontario in 20 days.
