Queen’s Counsel, Carlos Simons has once again been appointed a judge to the Supreme Court of the Turks and Caicos Islands. His appointment took effect from April 1, 2021. Same as his first appointment in February last year, this will be a temporary assignment and he will serve on the bench for one year. His appointment in 2020, made him the first indigenous Turks and Caicos Islander to become a judge in the Islands. Turks and Caicos Islands is among twelve tax haven countries, which for the first time, provided information about the activities of some business entities located in the country to the countries where the entities’ parents or beneficial owners are tax resident, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCED) recently announced. Anguilla, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the United Arab Emirates, followed standards set out by the OECD’s Forum on Harmful Tax Practices, the OECD said. Explorer to attempt 1st human-powered crossing of Turks and Caicos Islands
Toronto-based explorer Mario Rigby spent two years crossing the African continent on foot. Last summer, he paddled the length of Lake Ontario in 20 days. Now, the Canadian-Turks and Caicos Islander is returning home to paddle, run, hike, cycle and swim across the eight main islands that make up the Turks and Caicos archipelago. The Turks and Caicos Islands has launched a portal to provide its populace with free and easy access to judicial information. The portal, referred to as the Turks and Caicos Islands Legal Information Institute (TCILII), is the first of its kind in the Caribbean and can be found at tcilii.org.
